We both find joy from going out on the motorbike, which I affectionately termed 'The Beast'. However, I find it does take its toll on me physically. My posture lacking the merest hint of any elegance or dignity after having ridden pillion for a number of hours. No. It's more like saving face over any amazing grace, particularly during and proceeding the dismount. And you can pretty much guarantee that your nose will run when your helmet visor is down and you are speeding along wearing plugged in gloves. A face covered in dried snot takes me back to a wintery childhood playground where pretty much all faces bore snot candles.
The post dismount walk. Where do I begin. With a gait most odd, stiffly shuffling from side to side like a character plucked straight from a Dickensian novel. Exploring castles, fields and follies along route, whilst trussed up in heavy protective biking gear that chafes in the summer but is most welcome in the winter.
Biking brings with it a welcome sense of freedom. A feeling that you are flying, you're on top of the world, almost touching the clouds. With your hair whipping against your face you tightly hold onto the one you love. Savouring the exhilaration that an exciting experience can bring.
