As we begin to step over the threshold, through that invisible portal towards the grim and bitter wintriness, we can, in our solemnity, take a moment to remember that at one time, it was always winter in Narnia but never Christmas. Meanwhile, over in the realm of Earth, those of us who celebrate our Christianity are much luckier. Each year, we find our most harshest of seasons initially bursting with yuletide festivities, 'tis a period of joyous celebration. December, however, not only blows in unannounced on the skirts of November’s dress coat but can also begone in the blink of one's eye, leaving those of us behind to face a desperate January. So, let us muddle through together and look ahead to the battle on Beltane, where the Green Man, once more defeats the Ice Queen and as crops begin to grow, our gardens return to life.
‘The sun will shine again.’
You may choose to make that a mantra for this most gelid of seasons, please do!
Meanwhile, here's a little gift for you in the form of some of the wildlife that stepped through The Hatch or into The Patch, during autumn 2023.
Blessings, Mr and Mrs WH and their crew x
